Babywearing International of Ocala
BWI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote babywearing as a universally accepted practice, with benefits for both child and caregiver, through education and support. The heart of BWI is our network of local chapters which provide free educational meetings and support within their own communities. All children and caregivers are welcome at our meetings.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
BWI of Ocala is run 100% by volunteers. And we need YOU.
Do you like meeting new people? We need you to greet caregivers who attend the meeting!
Are you organized and good at relaying specific information? We need you to check library carriers in and out!
Are you great at entertaining kids? We need you to keep an eye on the kids at the meetings while the educators (aka those kids’ parents) work with caregivers one-on-one.
Do you have ideas on ways to introduce babywearing to more caregivers in the area? We need you to help with community outreach!
Want to share the babywearing love? Help us create a flyer about our group and post around town (community boards) with meeting and contact info.
Are you passionate about keeping our membership fees low and our libraries well stocked? Good at motivating fellow members to rally for a cause? We need you to help with fundraising to grow and sustain our chapter!
Are you savvy with social media? Good at writing? Love graphic design? We have a spot for you to help with marketing and advertising our events and meetings!
And of course, we are always looking for those interested in training to be a Volunteer Babywearing Educator (VBE). If you’re an experienced babywearer or you are just great at teaching, and you’re interested in learning BWI’s teaching stances, we can help you become a VBE (the process is extremely non-scary and un-intimidating, in case you were wondering).
Here’s the point: Whatever your talent, we can find a great use for it if you would like to help. :)

We need you!
Are you interested in becoming a Volunteer Babywearing Educator? We are actively recruiting individuals who are competent in a variety of babywearing skills, including front, hip, and back carries, in a variety of carriers (woven wrap, stretchy wrap, ring sling, pouch sling, meh dai, and SSC), and who have knowledge of babywearing safety. Leaders can help you with some practices that you might be lacking, but you should have a working knowledge of most of these requirements, to demonstrate in a skills assessment, as well as a written application. VBEs should have excellent communication skills, and be welcoming to the community, both in meetings and the online forums. VBEs are expected to attend monthly meetings and contribute, as needed, to the Facebook group. If you meet these qualifications and are interested in becoming a VBE, please fill out this interest form to learn more about the process. We offer an online and in person training program tailored specifically for BWI of Ocala trainees.
Do you want to support BWI of Ocala but are not interested in training to be an Educator? The CSV position may be for you! CSV stands for Chapter Support Volunteers and are volunteers who serve in a variety of capacities within local BWI chapters including (but not limited to) administrative roles or educators in training. All CSVs will be voting members of BWI and covered by BWI insurance when serving as a volunteer for their local chapter. Dues are paid directly to BWI. CSVs have access to the online leader forums on Facebook and TBW.
Additional roles for the group outside of VBE are listed below, and you can contact us if you are interested in helping the chapter in one of these roles, or in another capacity, for example:
-
Assist at meetings -- Set up or break down, greet attendees and help with sign in, welcome newcomers
-
Fundraising – Fundraising events for the organization, keep track of fundraising events being run by various members and encourage members to host fundraisers
-
Membership – Encourage general membership and promote members to participate in contests, meetings, activities. May also host membership drives and solicit membership perks
-
Social media or to help with technical aspects, including our blog, software and spreadsheets
-
Volunteering your time, behind the scenes planning via the Facebook leader group, or offering business discounts
We have monthly planning meetings and would love for you to attend if you are interested in learning more about how you can help the organization. We appreciate our volunteers and all offers of help. Best of all, we have fun doing what we do and would love to have you!
